The small state of Alagoas is one of the pleasant surprises of the
Northeast. The capital Maceió is located
292km north of Aracaju and 259km south of Recife.
A manageable place for the visitors, the city has
a modern feeling apart from a small historical area
in the commercial center, and offers endless sun
and sea. The beaches are enchanting with calm emerald
waters and the coast between Maceio & Recife
is called the Gold Cost, according to its outstanding
sea water, the clearest along the Brazilian mainland
coast. The most popular beaches in Maceio are between
the beach of Ponta Verde and Praia de Jatiuca. On
the beaches in the north there are beautiful coral
reefs, where you can swim in natural swimming pools
(best done at low tide).
Along the region’s coast there are many fishing villages with
fabulous beaches shaded by rows of coconut trees.
Maceio is the perfect destination for those that
enjoy the sun, bathing and beautiful beaches. Here
one can really relax and find both nice beaches
and enjoy the nightlife. Why not start the day by
a great walk along the beach of Ponta Verde, then
a tour by boat to the natural swimming pools some
kilometers from the cost (where lunch/snack is served),
and in the evening enjoy the sunset at the Lake
Mundau eating some new catch crab and listen to
some music of Bolero. In the evenings it is popular
to sit at one at many beach kiosks, to eat and drink
some, and dance “Forro”, a dance of
fast movements, typical dance & music from the
northeast of Brazil.
