The
3-hour city tour starts by visiting the Municipal
Market, a “copy” of the “Lês
Halles” in Paris. Here we observe the busy market
and sales of regional products like; fruits, medicine
plants, fish, grains, etc. Next stop will be at the
Palace of Rio Negro, – once the residence of
the wealthy German rubber merchant, Valdemar Sholz,
which today serves as the headquarters of the local
government (outside visit). The building is a sample
from the rich epoch of rubber industry. We will also
know more about the Indian Culture, tribes from the
“Alto Rio Negro, see showcases of tools, weapons,
constructions, etc at the “Indian Museum”.
Then we will visit the famous and lavish opera house.
It was inaugurated in 1899 and has been influenced
by European architecture and most art & decoration
comes from Europe. We end the tour by visiting the
Military Zoo of CIGS, where we can observe several
species of regional animals.
Note: The Opera house and the Indian museum
are closed on Sundays and holidays, whereof we can
not make inside visits and the tour can suffer slight
changes for other attractions.
