Fazenda Santa Tereza is located in the north part
of Pantanal, about 165km from Cuiabá. You take
the road Transpantaneira from Cuiabá to Poconé,
and 65km (+3km) after Poconé you reach the
guest house. It might take about 2,5 hour by car from
the airport in Cuiabá. Fazenda Santa Tereza
is a large traditional cattle ranch of 3.500 hectares
of flooded lands. The place is situated at the end
of Rio Pixaim River. This is a nice place to stay
at because you are quite “deep” into the
Pantanal, on the middle of the Transpantaneira road.
Here you can make boat safaris on the rivers, and
is it possible to see monkeys and a lot of aquatic
birds, capybaras, Caymans, etc. In the region you
will be able to also see the famous Victoria-Regina
plant. You may visit the place especially between
July and November, when there are lots of birds that
make their immigration stopover. Between January and
April is the top of the “wet season” with
flooded lands and it can even be difficult to access
some places, especially by car.
At this
farm (guest house) they have a restaurant with TV
and a swimming pool. The place is good for observations
of birds, and they provide with tours by boat, horse
and trekking. You may also practice fishing and alligator
spotting. There are 10 guest rooms all with private
bathroom, air conditioning, ceiling fan, single beds
and windows covered with mosquito nets.
