International credit cards like Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Diners Club, are accepted in many places, especially in Brazil's bigger cities, all modern shopping centers and luxury hotels. But is surprising how many don't accept credit cards. It is common that i.e. one restaurant accepts Visa card, but not MasterCard or vice versa. Make sure you ask first if the accept "your" card before having dinner…!

In general, Visa has the best coverage with most establishments, MasterCard/Diners second and American Express third place on the "ranking list". Visa has also more options of giving cash advances in ATM's. You may utilize the banks of Banco do Brasil or Banco Bradesco. At the Citibank's offices (have also ATM's at Blockbusters) you can utilize all mentioned credit cards. Note: There is a limit of withdrawals of R$600,00 each time at all ATM's. If you go inside one Citibank office, you may withdrawal a higher amount.
