Climate - Weather

The climate varies according to latitude and altitude. The seasons are the exact reverse of those in the US and Europe (except North of the Equator). Brazil is marked by highly varied climates, ranging from the humidity of the Amazon region, the dry heat of the Northeastern region and the permanently pleasant warm weather of most of the costal area, to cool evening temperatures in many parts of the plateau and a temperate climate in the South, where snow and frost can occur in the winter months.

São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are on the Tropic of Capricorn, and its climate is just that - Tropical. Summers are hot, with temperatures rising as high as 40°C (105°F), although the average ranges between 29-35°C (84-95°F). In winter, the temperature stays in the 20s C (70sF), occasionally dipping into the 10-18°C (60s F). The following are the average daily minimum and maximum temperatures for São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro: January, 21-29°C (69-84°F); February-March, 22-29°C (72-85°F); April, 21-27°C (69-80°F); May-October, 14-25°C (63-77°F); November, 20-26°C (68-79°F); December, 22-28°C (71-82°F). However, there is a climatic difference between Rio and São Paulo, because of the sea - there is more humid air in Rio than in São Paulo. On the other hand, it can be very grayish and hazy weather in São Paulo because of its pollution, especially spring time. Check the weather today in São Paulo and/or in Rio de Janeiro.
